How Sunscreen Powder Works (and How It’s Different from Lotion)

Both sunscreen lotion and powder protect your skin from harmful UV rays — but they do it in slightly different ways.

Traditional sunscreen lotions are often chemical or hybrid formulas that absorb UV rays, converting them into harmless heat before they can damage the skin. They work well but can sometimes feel greasy, heavy, or leave a white cast — especially on the go.

Mineral sunscreen powders, like Buffy, use natural minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to create a physical barrier on the skin. Instead of absorbing UV rays, they reflect and scatter them away — kind of like tiny mirrors.

The benefits?

  • Lightweight, breathable, and non-greasy

  • Perfect for reapplication throughout the day (even over makeup!)
